Snowflake Adjectives Activity, Grades 3–8

Winter is a special time to enjoy the outdoors. Children like to frolic in the snow, build snowmen, go sledding, and after getting rosy cheeks, come inside to sip hot chocolate. Inspired by wintery activities, I've created a simple grammar and writing activity for learning or reviewing adjectives.

SNOWFLAKE ADJECTIVES ACTIVITY

The Common Core State Standards in language state that students should be able to expand and combine sentences for meaning. Adjectives are one way students can spice up their writing and address the standards!

This warm-up activity offers a great way to teach adjectives as students think about their wintery activities! Using this Snowflake Adjectives Activity template, have your students compete to write as many adjectives as they can think of in 3 minutes describing wintertime and winter activities. Remember that every snowflake is different. The more adjectives, the better.

Extended Writing: Using the “snowflake adjectives” student came up with, have students write about a winter activity they have been a part of or plan to do this year, incorporating at least 5 of the adjectives from their snowflake.
