Baseball Lesson Plans, Activities, Games, & More!

Interactive Read Aloud: Growing Up Pedro

Author Matt Tavares has written and illustrated many children's picture books, but my favorites are his baseball biographies. His words read like poetry and his illustrations bring the stories to life. This April, use his baseball-inspired books during classroom read-alouds.

Interactive Read Aloud: Brothers at Bat

Every spring, I use a variety of baseball books with my classes in honor of baseball season. I have found that my 'reluctant boy readers' really enjoy these books. It is a fantastic feeling to see the kids that are typically least engaged during reading class to be the first to participate in class discussions.

Who is Jackie Robinson? Revision Activity

Baseball-themed activities are also a great way to improve grammar and writing skills. One skill that students need to practice often is identifying and correcting run-on sentences. With the revision worksheets below, students will read a portion of the text Who is Jackie Robinson? by Gail Herman and Nancy Harrison and then practice revising run-on sentences.

Parts of Speech Baseball Grammar Game

With the Baseball Grammar Game students engage in interactive writing and in identifying parts of speech. Prior to playing the game, students write short essays based on a writing prompt provided by you, the teacher. Then the class is divided into two teams to play ball!

Vocabulary Baseball Game

Vocabulary is a vital component of reading comprehension. The more words a student knows, the more they are able to comprehend what they're reading or listening to. Use the Baseball Vocabulary Game to learn or practice vocabulary words.

Baseball Clip Art & Stationary

Simple clip art and stationary can be used to re-energize routine writing activities or literacy lessons. We’ve created simple baseball printables for download. Encourage students to use these baseball worksheets to write a creative writing piece or summarize a baseball biography they've read.
