Vocabulary Activity: Creating Pinterest Vocabulary Boards, Grades 1–12

Written by Vocab Gal | Oct 3, 2013 1:01:00 PM

With the Pinterest Board Vocabulary Activity students draw or cut out images of things that will help them remember their vocabulary words! These visual representations will help students make deep connections that they can call upon when asked to remember each vocabulary word's definition.

Using Pinterest to Make Connections to Vocabulary Words

Staring at my Vocab Gal Pinterest boards this weekend actually fostered a new vocabulary activity– Pinterest Vocabulary Boards. I know many of my students love to create their own Pinterest boards and students are so visual that combining cool visuals with great words will be fun and hopefully educational.

HOW IT WORKS

Assign students to create a board with a visual image that connects to each of their vocabulary words.  In the description part of the pin, they should delete what someone else wrote and add in their own connections between picture and text. The goal, much like my vocabulary playlist, is that students made a deep connection that they can call upon when asked to remember each word’s definition.

You can decide to do this activity either “high tech” on Pinterest or “low tech” on my downloadable form using hand drawn pictures or magazine cutouts. Either way, the goal is to give students a high-impact visual image to go along with each word.

Here is my example board to share with students!
