I mentioned in a previous post that through my blog I would be sharing with you 'inspiring reads.' These are books that 'inspire' my students that typically do not enjoy reading, to want to read. This means I am always on the lookout for good books, and my students know that. so now they are bringing me their favorite books. It warms my heart when one of my students just can't wait to share a book with me. This month's 'inspiring read' was brought to my attention by several students before I added it to my classroom library, Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein.

About the Book

Kyle Keeley is the class clown and a huge fan of all games—board games, word games, and particularly video games. His hero, Luigi Lemoncello, the most notorious and creative gamemaker in the world, just so happens to be the genius behind the construction of the new town library. Lucky Kyle wins a coveted spot as one of twelve kids invited for an overnight sleepover in the library, hosted by Mr. Lemoncello and riddled with lots and lots of games. But when morning comes, the doors stay locked. Kyle and the other kids must solve every clue and figure out every secret puzzle to find the hidden escape route!

Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein is a fun and clever mystery. I enjoyed it because of its literary references throughout the book and how it reminded me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. My students said they liked it because they were "never bored" and "couldn't wait to see how they got out of the library." Escape From Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein was very popular with my students and apparently students everywhere because Chris Grabenstein wrote a sequel Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics. Both books are favorites amongst my students.
