Adverbs Grammar Practice, Grades 3–5

Students love to discuss what is better. I enjoy listening to their conversations during football season. Where I live, the Denver Broncos are faster, stronger, and quicker than any other team. These recent classroom chats got me thinking about adverbs. Today I'm sharing printable adverb grammar exercises for grades 3–5.

Football conversations are a great opportunity to point out that adverbs can compare two or more actions. Below are some simple grammar rules about adverbs to review with students:

  • If an adverb is a one-syllable word, add –er or –est to compare

  • If an adverb is a word with two or more syllables, use the word more or most for comparing

  • If an adverb ends in –ly use more or most for comparing

  • Never use both –er or –est and more or most for comparing
