Back-to-School Elementary Activity: Book Jacket & Table of Contents

A fun way for you to get to know your elementary students better and help them get to know each other is by having them create a book jacket cover and table of contents about themselves. This simple back-to-school elementary activity is a great way to kick off the new year!

On the front of the book jacket students will create a clever book title that describes themselves and illustrate a picture that shows them doing their favorite activity. On the back of the book jacket, students will write a brief description that summarizes who they are, their interests, hobbies etc. Then in the table of contents section of this activity students will write seven chapter descriptions.

My Book Example

Book Title: The Baby Machine By Erin Lynch

Chapter 1- My Family: In just over three years, I have given birth to three beautiful children under the age of three. While taking care of two toddlers and an infant I always mange to find time for my true passion, reading. I also love to exercise, but these days that comes in the form of pushing a swing or running behind a stroller. Our favorite day of the week in my house is 'Football Sunday.' I just love when my three-year-old son yells, "Go New York Giants! Go!" For a football fanatic, this is music to my ears.
