Revising and Editing Worksheets: Remembering V-E Day, Grades 9–12

Revising and editing are skills students’ need in school and in life. Practicing revision and editing helps students recognize the characteristics of good writing.

I'm kicking off a series of revising and editing worksheets I've created for your Language Arts classrooms. These printable grammar exercises will span different grade levels and will highlight passages that may be timely, informative, or simply entertaining!

In May of 1945, the Allied nations met with German officials in France to sign surrender papers. World War II had ended. Countless Americans have connections to this time period. My own grandfather was a member of the United States Army and fought overseas. Millions have visited the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Students have worked to become more proficient writers this school year. One way to assess their growth is to measure their ability to edit a text. The anniversary of this V-E Day provides a great opportunity for students to read informational texts to learn more about this historical event and to apply editing skills. If the anniversary of V-E Day has passed, this still makes a great practice exercise!

With my revising and editing worksheets, students will read a paragraph on V-E Day, then identify errors. In order to recognize errors in the text, students must critically read and evaluate the passage. After students have closely reviewed the paragraph and marked all errors, they will rewrite the paragraph in the space provided.
