Comma uses include noun of direct address, interjection, and introductory words. The first comma practice worksheets are for grades 3–5 and focuses on Common Core State Standards L.5.2.B and L.5.2.C. This lesson focuses on applying the conventions of standard English and correctly using punctuation to set off nonrestrictive or nonessential information. Commas In A Series for Grades 6–8

The second comma practice worksheets I have available for download are for grades 6–8 and focus on comma usage in compound sentences and series. With this mini lesson and practice sheet students will learn how to:

  • Use a comma before the following conjunction words: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.*

*The acronym FANBOYS helps students remember when to use a comma.

  • Use a comma to separate words in a series of three or more items.
  • Use a comma to separate two or more adjectives that come before and modify the same noun.
